Sadya Mizan is a Bangladeshi artist, curator, educator and creative facilitator based in Aberdeenshire. For over a decade, she has worked across the arts and cultural sector through exhibitions, artist residencies, research, learning programmes and workshops, with a particular interest in heritage, archives, cultural accessibility and community-led practice. Her work across Bangladesh, the UK and Europe has brought her together with artists, museums, cultural & heritage organisations and diverse communities including minor, marginalised, displaced and refugee communities. Drawing from her South Asian heritage and multicultural experiences, Sadya enjoys creating spaces for people to learn through making, while bringing traditional and contemporary practices together through visual art, textiles, craft, storytelling and everyday materials. She is the founder of Uronto Artist Community and co-founder of hArticulture, through which she develops accessible creative experiences connecting art, culture, heritage, nature and community.
Discover how everyday fruits and vegetables can become playful printmaking tools. Experiment with their natural shapes, textures and patterns to build your own printed design on a tote bag. The workshop begins by looking closely at familiar fruits and vegetables and discovering the surprising patterns hidden inside them.
With step-by-step guidance, you will learn how to prepare your printing materials, apply colour, experiment with pressure and repetition, layer different shapes and develop them into your own composition. Use the process to reflect your personality, memories or everyday life, or simply enjoy experimenting with colour, shape and pattern. It will be a colourful, relaxed session designed to encourage experimentation and curiosity — and you may find yourself looking at an ordinary vegetable in a completely different way afterwards! You will leave with your own hand-printed tote bag and plenty of inspiration for continuing to experiment with everyday materials at home.
Participants are welcome to bring their own clothing, preferably cotton, to stitch, paint or print on if they would rather personalise something they already own. The provided tote bag will still be included for them to take home. No previous experience is needed, and all materials will be provided.
